I first received the emerald green Brigit cloak while living in Ireland in 2008. At the time, I was living in an old Protestant church in Ullard, (this link takes you to a talk given by my great grandfather in the early 1900’s) a site famous for another church dedicated to St. Fiacre. Our church home was once called The First Fruits Church of Ireland, and was built c.1800. We lived close to St. Fiacre’s where there were three bullaun stones (used for grinding wheat) and a well, which the locals dressed once a year, walking around it seven times, sunwise.

I suppose I had to receive it in the land which conceived it, to take the energy of the land of the Goddess Brigit with me. Two months later we were back in the UK. When I received the cloak I did not know we would be leaving. But when I was given the cloak, I also experienced something which explains a little more about it Here is the journal entry I wrote on the 5th April 2008:

“I felt a feeling in my stomach and knew I needed to do some work, somewhere! I went into the writing room in the tower and tuned in. The connection ran up and down through me and my feet grew roots which went deeply into the earth. A new template moved through me and a Brigit energy came down and was placed around my shoulders. The cloak was green. Then I was told I needed a new staff and I found myself holding one of silver birch. I called in the Lords of Light and found myself reaching up and pulling down a gold cord. I continued to pull it down. It went through me and coiled up behind my navel.

“After a few minutes, I felt the urge to hold my hands in front of my belly and as I did a womb came out of my navel which I supported in my hands. It was still attached to me, as though it were mine. Then I saw hands appear in front of me and they opened up the womb. Out of it slithered many baby snakes and one very large one, like a fully grown python. The baby snakes were all wriggling around each other and they began to separate and go off into the serpent channels in the earth, leaving the large one. It then began to move, down through the church, and into the ground way below the tower. First, it created a resting place for itself and then continued into the sandy layers of the ancient lands which lie beneath us. There was an underground water channel which the snake began to follow by swimming along it. It seems to move within a certain ‘territory’ but has its resting place, or lair, beneath the church tower. My ‘womb’ was then sewn up and placed back behind my navel. The symbol of protection, the cross in the circle, was once again placed over it.

Then I became aware of myself again, standing in my green cloak, and holding my silver-birch staff. I was instructed to strike the ground three times and when I had, it had the effect of ‘opening’ up the stones of the church. Musical notes began to emerge from the stones and fill the church with the sounds of creation and healing.”

That particular energy transmission gave me the cloak of Brigit, and facilitated the rebirth of the snakes which had traditionally been banished by St. Patrick. The snakes are the ancient ways, the serpent knowledge and the ‘pagan’ rituals connected to the fertility of the earth. Brigit’s energetic cloak is that part of the ancient knowledge of the Goddess and her connection to the land.

It is not confined to Ireland, however. The serpent knowledge, known and worked with in sacred rites around the world for many centuries, is returning. Those people who feel the call of the land and of the goddess are also returning.

Over time, the Goddess Brigit became Saint Bridget and there is a story about her and her ‘Brat’, or cloak. In Irish it is called Brat Bhride (brat Breed).

“St. Brigid’s Cloak: St. Brigid went to the King of Leinster to ask for land to build a convent. She told the king that the place where she stood was the perfect place for a convent. It was beside a forest where they could collect firewood. There was also a lake nearby that would provide water and the land was fertile. The king laughed at her and refused to give her any land. Brigid prayed to God and asked him to soften the king’s heart. Then she smiled at the king and said “will you give me as much land as my cloak will cover?” The king thought that she was joking and because Brigid’s cloak was so small he knew that it would only cover a very small piece of land. The king agreed and Brigid spread her cloak on the ground. She asked her four friends to hold a corner of the cloak and walk in opposite directions. The four friends walked north, south, east and west. The cloak grew immediately and began to cover many acres of land. The king was astonished and he realized that she had been blessed by God. The king fell to the ground and knelt before Brigid and promised her and her friends money, food and supplies. Soon afterwards, the king became a Christian and also started to help the poor. Having the cloak of Brigit in your auric field gives you the ability to claim land for the Goddess. To return the awareness of the serpents and their fertility to the collective conscious of whatever country you live in. The land you work with is your sacred territory and where you do your own layering of energy. This can be in multiple places, in any place in the world but where they need the rebuilding of the sacred feminine energies. It acts like a carpet of green grass, fertile and lush, a land nurtured by you.

Once it is anchored in your auric field it guides you itself. You may not know it is doing it, but you will find certain territories opening up, places you return to again and again, to activate over time. You can spend many years, sometimes with gaps of time in between where you do nothing to the site, but when an activation is necessary you will feel the call to return there.

Sometimes too, you will be very aware that the cloak is being used and you will see it being laid over a sacred site, like a blanket. We recently did this on Flowerdown Barrow in Littleton, Winchester, UK. The frequencies of this cloak offer you the same protection as it does the land. And the awareness that the land is the source of fertility and life.

When you receive the cloak, you may also receive other energies, such as the Brigit cross, or any other energy your guides feel would be useful to you on your journey. As with all attunements, I record the session, which is usually about an hour long and when you listen to it the energies are anchored in your auric field.
